Such a dilemma...

I know this person who is a foster parent and her social worker was making her bi-annual home inspection visit yesterday.  This foster parent wasn’t too worried about the house because it was clean cleanish kinda picked up, but her laundry was totally out of control.  Since there wasn’t time to catch it up, her options were:

a)     Put all the dirty laundry back in the drawers and closets and just pretend they were clean.

b)    Hide it all in the shower – if you have a see-through shower curtain, this is why you shouldn’t.

c)     Leave it out so the social worker can see it and know what reality is.

What option do you think I, I mean, the person I know chose?

My Crazy Dream

My sister-in-law kept Baby A on Friday night and I got my first full night of sleep in far too long.  As a result, my dreams went into serious overdrive! I dreamed at least four completely different storylines.  Some were very realistic, and some were…well, not.

Do you believe dreams mean something?  I’m only asking because I’m trying to figure this one out.

I watched “Dukes of Hazzard” every week when I was little.  Yeah, I was a fan, but not like a rabid fan.  Twice in the last week, I’ve dreamed I went on a date with Bo Duke.  What is UP with that?? He was cute, of course, but wasn’t he the dumber of the two?  I just can’t figure out why I would dream something so random, and especially TWICE!

Anybody care to analyze this?

Yep, they're mine.

When you have a biological child, they usually carry at least a few obvious physical traits that are similar to one or both parents.  When you adopt, sometimes there is little or no physical likeness….as is the case with Yuri and Gigi, of course.  But, never fear… they repeatedly do and say things that confirm the fact that they are indeed *my* children.

---------

Me:                 Yuri, are you ready for 1st grade?

Yuri:               No, because I really suck at math.

--------

Sitting at an intersection yesterday….Light turns green and cars in front of us are a tad bit slow to react…

Gigi:                Green means go, PEOPLE!!!  Get out of the way!

--------

When I was tucking them into bed last night…

Yuri:               Ahhh.  I’m so glad it finally got dark.  I’ve been waiting all day to go back to sleep.

Yep.  Definitely my kids.

Family Vacation 2013

I feel weird even calling it a "family" vacation because Hunter wasn't with us.  I guess I have to get used to the idea of not having everybody together, but I don't like it.  I don't like it one bit.

Here are some pictures from the Garnett Family Vacation 2013.

On every other beach trip in her life, Baby A HATED all things beach... the sand, the water, the sun, the people... just hated life in general at the beach.  We were THRILLED when she actually liked it on DAY 1!!!

Gigi is such a good big sister!

And so is Karlie!

Pretty beach babies!

Baby A is telling a big fish story apparently!

Yuri and Gigi met a sweet new friend, Lainey Kate, from Mississippi.

Tad bit of attitude on the beach

JUMP!

Ready, set, gooooo!

They all love the water.  We NEED a pool at home!!!

I had to include this one.  Can you see what they're playing??

Oh, look!  Haley Rae finally showed up in a picture.  We were all sad to leave.  :(

So all you get is pictures this time.  Our vacation was over a month ago and I honestly have such a horrible memory these days that I couldn't blog specifics if I had to.  Must be one of those age things... like thinking the screen on your iPhone was messed up when you really just needed reading glasses.  Ugh.

We truly did have a good time, even though Willard would rather be anywhere else on earth.  He knows how bad I want a pool and he told me that if I would agree to NEVER go back to the beach, we would break ground on a pool immediately.  Uh, no.  Sorry, buddy.  I intend to visit the beach many, many, many more times in my life.

Bye Bye Orange Beach... see you next year.  (Unless I can figure out a way to get back again THIS year)
 Vacation is HARD work!

Meaningless thoughts from the brain of Amy...

Here are my random observations and thoughts for the day.  If you’re looking for something educational or even interesting, you should probably move right along.

Candy Crush is the new meth.  It’s a darn good thing I’m not influenced by peer pressure because you all (my so-called FRIENDS) keep trying to get me hooked on the stuff.  So far I’ve stood strong and refused all invites, but y’all need to leave me be.

We’ve got 7 inches of rain yesterday.  ON THE 4TH OF JULY.  Do you know how bad that stinks? More rain today, more rain tomorrow.  Since it IS still a holiday weekend, though, I decided not to do anything productive.  If I had tried, I could probably have a clean house and all most some of my laundry done.  Instead, I’ve watched TV with kids piled all over me, tried to read (not effectively) and played a couple hundred rounds of Words With Friends.  You know you’re bored when you get all excited that you played the word “FART” for 61 points and had this conversation about it…

Speaking of the holiday, ummmm, who started the whole ’MERICA thing?  I understand it’s supposedly a redneck thing but I don’t buy it.  There is no bigger redneck than myself (and I say that with GREAT pride), and I do not say ‘Merica.  I’m sure there are more important things that should annoy me, but at this very minute, that’s right at the top of my list.  When this long holiday weekend is over, I’ll be glad to see two things leave us – the rain and ‘Merica.

Now I feel bad.  I’ve been totally negative on this entire blog post.  That’s why Willard thinks my grandma name needs to be Gripey, I guess.  Sigh.

I’ll end on a positive – We’re having a fish fry tonight and all my little chickees will be here.  Haley and Karlie don’t know it yet, but I’m going to make them stay home (for the second night a row – the horror!) and Hunter should be leaving Memphis on his way here shortly.  For a few blissful (because blissful is synonymous with loud and chaotic, right?) hours, we will all be together.

Happy 4th of July!  God Bless AMERICA!!

That random phone call...

Willard called me at 5:24 a.m. yesterday morning.  I was downstairs with the baby and he was in bed. When I saw his number pop up on the screen, I had a little moment of panic that something might be wrong.  What I wasn’t prepared for is this –

WILLARD:                 Hey, I thought of our grandparent names.

ME:                             (silence…because first of all, we aren’t expecting to become grandparents for at least 10 years…and also because that’s such a random statement to come from him of all people)

WILLARD:                 Did you hear me?

ME:                             Yes, I heard you.  I’ve already picked my grandma name.

WILLARD:                 I got better ones.  Grumpy and Gripey.  I’ll be Grumpy and you be Gripey.

Wow.  Grumpy and Gripey.  I really want to be offended and hate it, but I have to admit… those are pretty spot on.  What do you think??

Shhhh...she's asleep. Don't jinx me.

After months getting up a billion times a night, Baby A slept from 8:15 last night to 5:15 this morning.  Then, she woke up for about 15 minutes, went back to sleep, and is STILL asleep at 7:45.  Hold your applause, please.  This could be a fluke and I don’t want to get too excited.  You’re probably thinking I feel super rested today, huh?  Well, I don’t, because I kept waking up to check on her.  I came downstairs four times to make sure she was breathing.
One morning this week, I found myself Googling "Guiness Book of World Records...number of times toddler wakes up in the middle of the night."  I thought we might as well get recognized for our achievement.  There is no such entry, of course, but if there were, we'd take the Gold for sure.  Another morning, after 5 hours of sitting upright on the couch with her on my lap and my legs curled underneath me, I realized I couldn't get up.  No, I mean, I COULD NOT GET UP.  My legs were in a perpetual bent position and they wouldn't straighten out.  After much popping, creaking and flexing, I was able to make it to the bathroom.  Ugh.  Let's hope those days are behind us.

Blogging is my on July to-do list.  I’ve been really slacking and I miss it.  Honestly, with Baby A’s sleep pattern (which resembles that of a colicky newborn), it’s just hard for my poor brain to string together a coherent sentence.

We did have an awesome beach trip a couple of weeks ago.  Except for Hunter, who had to work, it was a true family trip with no extras.  I can’t remember the last time (if ever) that has happened.  Haley and Karlie usually want to take a friend.  It’s awesome that they now consider themselves friends with EACH OTHER.

I’m going to try to blog about the trip soon  - so stay tuned!

P.S. Baby A woke up at 8:03.  I’m so impressed and holding my breath that this a new trend!
